The Genesis G70 returns for 2020 after an award-winning debut year, with achievements such as the 2019 North American Car of The Year award, Motor Trend's 2019 Car of the Year crowning, and the number-one ranking in the Initial Quality by J.D. Power in the compact premium car category. It brings a great mixture of high-class luxury features, elevated style, and outstanding performance at an attainable price. With top-tier passenger comfort, amenities, and safety features, drivetrain choices of rear-wheel or all-wheel, plus the availability of a manual transmission to please true driving enthusiasts, the G70 is in every way a formidable rival for those more expensive German sports sedans.

Trim Levels and Standard Features

The G70 is only offered in two trim levels, but there are some available packages of amenities (including upgrades like 19-inch alloy wheels, a wireless charging pad, and a surround-view monitor) for customization. The base 2.0T trim can hardly be called a base, since it's loaded with great standard features. Its luxurious and spacious cabin is outfitted with 8-way power-adjustable driver and passenger seats, a split-folding rear seatback, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an information/entertainment system that features an 8-inch touchscreen, hands-free smartphone integration, auxiliary and USB ports, and a six-speaker sound system. It also comes standard with hands-free entry, push-button ignition, automatic climate control, integrated turn signals with heated mirrors, and dusk-sensing headlamps. The next trim level, the 3.3T, adds LED headlamps, self-leveling headlights, a wide sunroof, ventilated front seats, alloy pedals, an integrated navigation system, and a premium Lexicon 15-speaker sound system with Quantum Logic Surround and Clari-Fi Music Restoration Technology.

Mechanical Features

Both 2020 G70 trims are offered in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The 2.0T is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine (252 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque), which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. This is a true sports sedan, and so a 6-speed manual transmission is also offered, but only with RWD. The 3.3T trim gets a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which delivers a substantial 365 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to the same eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters (the manual transmission is not offered on this trim).

The debut version of the G70 earned a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its outstanding collision-test results. There's no reason to expect anything less in the 2020 model year, as those advanced safety features are largely unchanged. All G70s come standard with a blind-spot collision warning system with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, smart cruise control with stop & go, high beam assist, driver attention warning, and a rear vision camera. On the passive safety side of things, there's an advanced airbag system and solid-body construction to ensure maximum protection in the unfortunate event of a collision.
