The Genesis G90, the Korean automaker's flagship vehicle, is back for the 2020 model year, showing off a striking new exterior look and other changes. The refreshed appearance is marked by a diamond-inspired pattern and attention-getting crest-shaped grille between the streamlined LED headlights. Underneath the new sheet metal, it's still the quiet, comfortable, and well-stocked full-sized sedan that discerning drivers appreciate. With a base price of $72,200, it represents the perfect alternative for those who want a true luxury sedan for significantly less than a comparable European car.

Trims and Powertrains

There are two trim levels: the 3.3T Premium and 5.0 Ultimate. These names refer to the engines that power each: the Premium gets a turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 that makes 365 horsepower and 376 pounds-feet of torque, and the Ultimate has a 5.0-liter V8 that produces 420 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. They both get the same eight-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.

Comfort and Convenience

Even though it costs significantly less than a comparable car from Mercedes-Benz or BMW, the 2020 Genesis G90 gets plenty of plush amenities. On the outside, the base 3.3T Premium receives 19-inch wheels, adaptive automatic LED headlights, LED running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, a hands-free trunk lid, an adaptive suspension, auto-dimming mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition. Inside you'll find leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory functions, a heated steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, rear seat climate control, and heated rear outboard seats. In the front row, the heated and ventilated front seats allow occupants to input their height and weight so it can calculate each person's optimal seating position. The 5.0 Ultimate adds power-adjustable ventilated rear seats with memory and massage functions (the right rear seat has an extendable footrest, too).

Safety and Technology

All 2020 Genesis G90s comes with a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, a forward collision warning and mitigation system with pedestrian detection, highway driving assist, lane departure warning and intervention, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking collision avoidance assist, safe exit assist, a drowsy driver monitor, and Genesis Connected Services telematics. In 2019 the Genesis G90 received a Top Safety Pick+ accolade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), so it's likely that the 2020 version will as well.

The 3.3T Premium is outfitted with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front and rear USB ports, audio controls for the rear passengers, integrated navigation with voice controls, satellite and HD radio, a head-up display, a wireless charging pad, and a premium Lexicon audio system with 17 speakers. The 5.0 Ultimate is eligible for the available pair of 10.3-inch HD screens to entertain the rear passengers.
