The 2022 Genesis G90 is an attention-grabbing full-sized sedan that blends plushness with performance, offering a world-class slate of deluxe amenities and an award-winning roster of sophisticated safety aids. It’s quite a looker, too, with an elegant shape that’s dominated by radiant 19-inch chrome alloy wheels, a diamond-inspired crest grille, and quad-beam LED headlights. On top of being a visual showstopper, the ’22 G90 is also a powerhouse that’s capable of producing up to 420 hp. Couple that zesty performance with the smooth and precise shifting of an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the result is a top-notch performance sedan. In addition to everything just mentioned, the ‘22 G90 comes with industry-leading warranty coverage and complimentary maintenance plan, which covers routine oil and filter changes, tire rotations, brake pad and windshield wiper replacements, and multipoint inspections for 3 years/36,000 miles.
Powertrains and Fuel Economy
Genesis’ 2022 G90 is made in two powertrain configurations: 3.3T and 5.0. The 3.3T has a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 365 hp and 376 lb.-ft. of torque. The 5.0 edition’s namesake powerplant is a 5.0-liter V8 making 420 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Both are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the standard rear-wheel drivetrain or available all-wheel drivetrain. The EPA has estimated the RWD and AWD versions of the 3.3T to return 17 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the freeway. The 5.0 – regardless of its drivetrain – achieves 16 city/24 highway.
The 3.3T comes with a pleasing list of upscale features. On the outside, these consist of full LED headlights, power soft-closing doors, heated and power-folding side mirrors with auto-dimming, a power trunk, a sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, front and rear parking sensors, an adaptive control suspension, and proximity entry. The interior has push-button ignition, Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats with posture care and position memory, heated rear seats, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, two USB ports, a head-up display, a wireless phone charger, and four selectable drive modes (Comfort, Sport, Eco, and Custom).
In addition to the more robust engine, the 5.0 is outfitted with power-adjustable ventilated rear seats and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 10.3-inch screens. Both configurations are eligible for a choice of wheel packages: the Dish Wheel Package supplies 19-inch dish-style alloys, whereas the Multi-Spoke Wheel Package issues 19-inch multi-spoke alloys.
Both versions of the ‘22 G90 come with an assortment of award-winning safety aids that help take the stress out of driving. These include highway driving assist with traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, lane keeping assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist with a live-feed blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, rear parking collision-avoidance assist, safe exit assist, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and driver attention warning.
The 3.3T and 5.0 both get a deluxe infotainment system with a crisp 12.3-inch touchscreen plus navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an immersive 900-watt 17-speaker Lexicon audio system with QuantumLogic surround sound.
