What’s Under the Hood?
The ’22 GV70 is an absolute powerhouse that’s sold in two trims: 2.5T and 3.5T. As the names suggest, the 2.5T receives a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a class-best 300 hp, while the 3.5T houses a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that whisks 75 additional horses. Both come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drivetrain. As per EPA listings, the 2.5T grades are expected to return an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, while the 3.5Ts should achieve around 19 city/25 highway.
Active Safety and Infotainment Systems
There’s no shortage of active safety technologies with the ’22 GV70. While most luxury crossovers will cost you a pretty penny, the GV70 and its rival, the 2022 Audi Q5, are both particularly affordable despite their prestige. Overall, the GV70 is more powerful than the Q5. The GV70’s base engine, a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, makes 300 hp and 311 lb.-ft. of torque. The Q5’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant produces 261 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque. The GV70 is also eligible for a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that churns out 375 hp and 391 lb.-ft. of torque; the gasoline-only Q5 is only offered with the one engine. Both models are all-wheel drive, and while the Q5 is also made as a plug-in hybrid, an all-electric version of the GV70 will be sold at some point in 2022. As we above mentioned, both the 2022 Genesis GV70 and the 2022 Audi Q5 are rather inexpensive despite their luxurious reputation; however, the GV70 is more wallet-friendly with its $41,000 starting MSRP. With the Q5, you’ll be greeted by a base MSRP of $45,600. Typically, the more expensive a vehicle is the more it has to offer, but the GV70 doesn’t quite follow convention as it delivers a ton of deluxe features that are either comparable or more upscale than what’s found in the pricier Q5. For example, the entry-level Genesis GV70 2.5T AWD with the Standard Package (no additional cost) comes with high-end amenities like rain-sensing windshield wipers, a hands-free liftgate, adaptive cruise control, an infotainment system with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a wireless smartphone charger, and a fingerprint recognition system. The Audi Q5 Premium – that model’s base trim – has a power liftgate, but without hands-free operation. Its power driver’s seat has just eight possible adjustments, and its infotainment touchscreen is smaller at 10.1 inches. It even lacks a wireless smartphone charger, adaptive cruise control, and fingerprint recognition.

The GV70 is backed by better warranty coverage than the Q5 since it comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. One of these rivals is the 2022 BMW X3, which boasts similar amenities, power output, and overall comfort. The ’22 GV70’s generous supply of desirable features is made even sweeter when you consider how cost-effective this model truly is. For example, the base 2.5T without any upgrade package has a starting MSRP of just $41,500, while the base X3 sDrive30i begins at $43,700. Although these two prices are not terribly far apart, the difference is emphasized when you consider that the 2.5T’s amenities are superior to the sDrive30i’s (we’ll get into this in the next section).

Even when you do just a quick comparison of the GV70 2.5T to the X3 sDrive30i, you’ll quickly discover that the Genesis vehicle has a more sophisticated list of standard amenities. Some of the standouts are an infotainment system with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, four USB ports, remote engine start, and power lumbar adjustments for the driver’s seat. In contrast, the X3 sDrive30i’s touchscreen is considerably smaller at 10.25 inches, it only gets two USB ports, and it’s not equipped with remote start or power lumbar adjustments.
The 2.5T even has some noteworthy active driver aids, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot intervention, and lane keeping assist. But the sDrive30i lacks adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist, and its blind-spot system only monitors – it does not autonomously intervene.
