For those who have been patiently waiting for Genesis to develop a premium all-electric crossover, your wish has been granted. For model year 2023, Genesis is set to release their masterfully crafted GV60, a stylish, zero-emissions utility vehicle that’s laying the groundwork for a new era in EVs. While it embodies the manufacturer’s Athletic Elegance design philosophy, the 2023 GV60 makes a distinct mark in the growing Genesis lineup with its smoother, more futuristic appearance (it’s clearly a Genesis through-and-through, but with a novel twist that we can only hope to see more of down the line). Here’s what we know so far.
The 2023 GV60 will be the first Genesis vehicle to be assembled on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). At launch, it will be sold with a dual-motor, all-wheel drive layout, although a rear-wheel drive model will be offered somewhere down the line. The ’23 GV60 will be made in two trims: Advanced and Performance. According to Genesis, the Advanced will produce 314 hp, while the Performance will generate 429 hp (with the Performance grade’s adrenaline-pumping Boost Mode, its horsepower will temporarily increase to 483).
Both trims will also get a 77.4-kWh battery pack; however, the Advanced is expected to travel up to 248 miles on a single charge, whereas the Performance’s electric range will be closer to 235 miles. This translates to 103 MPGe in the city and 86 MPGe on the highway with the Advanced and 97 city/82 highway with the Performance. When plugged in to a 350-kW DC fast charger, the GV60’s battery can go from 10% to 80% in approximately 18 minutes. What’s more, the GV60 can even be used as a mobile power source as it comes with a V2L (vehicle to load) system that supports a 3.6-kW charge.
While the ’23 GV60 retains the signature aesthetic cues seen on the other Genesis models, it has a more avant-garde appearance that sets it apart from the rest of the pack. The brand’s renowned Athletic Elegance design philosophy is clearly on display, but the GV60’s smoother profile – which is devoid of sharp character lines – lends an overall more refined silhouette. Meanwhile, the GV60’s interior seeks to promote a spacious and comfortable experience. One of its standout attributes is the floating center console that houses the state-of-the-art Crystal Sphere. When the car is off, the sphere functions as mood lighting, but when it’s booted up, it rotates to reveal the shift-by-wire (SBW) dial.
The ’23 GV60 will be packed with the industry’s most sophisticated high-tech equipment. The Advanced will embrace a panoramic “Vision” roof, a hands-free liftgate, leather upholstery, a head-up display, a wireless phone charger, facial recognition software (which functions as a positioning-memory system for the head-up display, driver’s seat, steering wheel, side mirrors, and infotainment system), a fingerprint ID scanner (lets you start the car without a key and offers an authentication function for in-car payments), power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, and a heated steering wheel.
Not only that, but the Advanced will also support two connected 12.3-inch digital screens, one for infotainment and the other for instrumentation. The infotainment system will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a very nice Bang & Olufsen audio system. The Performance will up the ante with an electronically controlled suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, premium Nappa leather upholstery, and heated rear seats.
The ’23 GV60 will come with a full slate of advanced driving aid technologies. Both trims will receive the basics: forward collision-avoidance assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and driver attention warning. Some even more advanced features will also be offered, including a surround-view monitor, a blind-spot view monitor, highway driving assist, road sign assist, parking sensors with collision-avoidance assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and rear occupant alert with safe exit assist.
