The EV segment gains a praiseworthy newcomer with the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80, the Korean luxury brand’s first electric sedan. You may already be familiar with the gasoline-powered G80, which raised the bar among deluxe sedans when the nameplate debuted for model year 2017. While the Electrified version of this midsized luxury sedan has the same level of luxury and convenience, its get-up-and-go comes from a fully electric, zero-emissions powertrain that will help its drivers lower their carbon footprint as they say goodbye to stops at the gas station.
Like the rest of the Genesis lineup of stunning and sophisticated vehicles, the Electrified G80 exemplifies the brand’s Athletic Elegance design philosophy, which places a premium on first-class refinement and daringly aerodynamic body lines. As the first electric model in the Genesis stable, the ‘23 Electrified G80 is ushering in a new era of plug-in elegance, which the automotive world should be excited to witness.
Powertrain, Range, and Charging
The 2023 Electrified G80 is a midsized luxury sedan that’s equal parts refined and athletic. It receives an 87.2-kWh battery pack and dual 136-kW electric motors (one on each axle) that combine to produce a total system output of 365 hp. The Electrified G80’s total driving range is estimated at 282 miles, and when it’s plugged in to a DC fast charger, it can go from 10 to 80 percent capacity in just 22 minutes. Buyers will enjoy three years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions through the Electrify America initiative.
