The Genesis G80 stands out in the luxury sedan segment with a stunning appearance that blends sophistication with athleticism. It presents a choice of two engaging powertrains, with a slate of high-end amenities at a more affordable price than its competitors. That said, there are plenty of worthy competitors in this class, with one of the most popular being the 2023 BMW 530i. While this premium German-made luxury car has certainly earned its devotees, we’ve found a number of advantages to the 2023 Genesis G80. Read on to see what we found.
Power and Performance
If high output is your focus, the 2023 G80 deserves your immediate attention. Its standard engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that puts out 300 hp and 311 lb.-ft. of torque, while the available upgrade is a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 making 375 hp and 391 lb.-ft. of torque. Conversely, the 530i is only sold with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 248 hp and 257 lb.-ft. of torque. Both sedans use an eight-speed automatic transmission and are eligible for all-wheel drive – although the base MSRP for an AWD G80 is $5,150 lower than that of the 530i xDrive (AWD).
Standard Features and Options
When we compared the G80 2.5T Advanced (MSRP: $50,470 to the BMW 530i (MSRP: $56,000), it became clear that the G80 is much better equipped despite its lower price. The Advanced trim comes with a panoramic sunroof, a power trunk, tri-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a crisp 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 21-speaker Lexicon audio system, and power rear sunshades. Not one of these amenities is provided in the costlier 530i. The G80 is also eligible for a few options that aren’t available in the 530i, including a driver’s seat with a power cushion extender, a heated steering wheel, smartphone-based Digital Key, and a 12.3-inch 3D digital gauge cluster.
Warranties and Maintenance Coverage
In addition to all of that, the 2023 Genesis G80 is protected by superior warranty coverage. Its basic bumper-to-bumper plan lasts for 5 years/60,000 miles, and its powertrain is covered for 10 years/100,000 miles. Compare that to the 530i’s coverage, where the basic warranty and powertrain warranty both expire at 4 years or 50,000 miles. What the two models have in common, though, is a 3-year/36,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan.
Advanced Safety Features
Another important advantage of the 2023 G80 is its extensive suite of standard driving aids. The entry-level model (which has an MSRP of $50,000) has forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, highway driving assist, safe exit assist, rear occupant alert, and parking sensors. With the Sport Prestige Package, the G80 will add a surround-view camera, an active blind-spot view monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and reverse automatic braking. The more expensive 530i only receives forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, parking sensors, and speed limit assist.
