Both of these elite models will give you invigorating performance, long-range driving, and rapid charge times; however, some of those areas are simply more impressive with the Electrified G80. For instance, the powertrain in the Genesis Electrified G80 consists of two electric motors (one on each axle) and an 87.2 kWh battery pack. This dual-motor setup combines to produce 365 horsepower, while the battery allows the Electrified G80 to travel up to 282 miles on a single charge, which equates to 105 MPGe in the city and 89 MPGe on the highway. What’s more, when plugged into a DC fast charger, the Electrified G80 can reach a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 22 minutes.
The Mercedes EQE, meanwhile, falls short in a few of those key areas. While it has a slightly better driving range of 305 miles, the EQE’s standard single electric motor only makes 288 hp. A more powerful two-motor arrangement is optional, but that version of the EQE is priced considerably higher than the dual-motor-exclusive Electrified G80. When it comes to charging, it takes 10 minutes longer for the EQE to go from a 10 to 80 percent charge when it’s plugged in to a DC fast charger. Another crucial advantage of the high-torque Electrified G80 is that it has a superior 0-to-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds (the EQE’s is 6.2 seconds).
Both automakers are renowned for providing a luxurious experience like no other, and while some might assume that Mercedes has the better offerings, the Electrified G80 will surprise those who make assumptions: it comes with an array of top-notch equipment. Although the EQE’s Exclusive trim level is priced similarly to the Electrified G80, only the Genesis EV receives an infotainment system with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a prominent 3-D digital gauge cluster, Digital Key technology, and a 21-speaker Lexicon audio system with QuantumLogic Surround. Even though the EQE Exclusive also comes with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, it’s not 3D; plus, its Burmester sound system only gets 15 speakers. To top it off, the Electrified G80 gets a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. This coverage is clearly superior to the EQE’s 4-year/50,000-mile plan that covers the entire vehicle.
The Electrified G80 and the EQE Exclusive both have a well-rounded stable of active driving aids that includes things like a surround-view camera, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane assistance, and adaptive cruise control. That said, the Electrified G80 has 10 total airbags instead of the 7 that are installed in the EQE.
