GV80 vs. Competitors
With a cutting-edge design and an ultra-premium interior, the Genesis GV80 stands out from its German competitors. But there's more to this luxury midsized crossover than looks. On this page, we explore what this means, as we match the GV80 against the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE 350. Unless noted otherwise, all comparisons involve the least-expensive trim with all-wheel drive for the 2026 model year.
Shop Genesis GV80Pricing
With an MSRP of $59,850, the GV80 is the undisputed pricing champion. Its closest competitor in this area, the Q7, has a starting price of $62,000, a difference of more than $2,000. Meanwhile, the GLE 350 has a base MSRP of $64,750, and the X5 skyrockets to $69,900, leading to a $10,050 separation between the GV80.
Engines
The base powerplant in the GV80 is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while the Q7 and GLE feature a similar setup but with smaller 2.0-liter units. As a result, the 300-horsepower GV80 delivers noticeably greater output than the GLE 350’s 255 hp and the Q7’s 261 hp. The X5 comes standard with a 375-hp turbo six-cylinder, but it’s accompanied by a much higher price tag than the other models have. The GV80, Q7, and GLE are available with turbocharged six-cylinder power, but only the Genesis and Mercedes match the BMW's horsepower while the Audi falls short.
Seating
Every 2026 GV80 is equipped with Highway Driving Assist 2, Smart Cruise Control 2, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Lane Following Assist 2, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, lane keeping assist, blind spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, forward and reverse parking distance warning, driver attention warning, forward attention warning, safe exit assist, advanced rear occupant alert, high beam assist, and a rearview camera. The 2.5T Advanced adds Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, a surround-view monitor, a blind-spot view monitor, side parking distance warning, and front/side/rear parking collision-avoidance assist.
Warranty
The GV80's competitors uniformly provide a four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, with no powertrain extension that covers the engine, transmission, and drive axles. In contrast, Genesis offers not only a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty but also a ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The GV80 also comes with five years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance, while this program for the others lasts only four years (with a 50,000-mile cap for the Mercedes).
Expert and Consumer Reviews
The GV80 received an overall rating of 7.9 out of 10 by Edmunds, which was edged out by the X5's 8.1 rating. However, the Genesis matched or topped the BMW in several individual scoring areas, including comfort, technology, utility, and fuel economy. The Q7 trailed with a 6.3 rating, while Edmunds had not rated the GLE by the time of this writing.
Owners on Edmunds gave the GV80 an overall consumer rating of 3.6 out of 5, compared to 3.7 for the X5. The Q7 followed with a 3.2 ranking. There was no consumer score for the GLE.
Cost of Ownership
Using a cost-of-ownership formula that reflects five years of use and 15,000 miles of annual driving, Edmunds gives the GV80 and Q7 the same average cost per mile of $1.04. However, X5 owners pay $1.16 per mile, and there's no data for the GLE. The calculation considers factors such as depreciation and fuel use. While the Genesis and Audi have similar overall numbers, the GV80 still comes out ahead thanks to lower upkeep demands, with $5,564 in maintenance and $1,027 in repairs over five years compared with the Q7’s $6,591 in maintenance and $3,538 in repairs. The X5 is estimated to have total maintenance and repair bills of $10,301 and $3,055, respectively.
